How AEW Fans Got Worked: The Great "WWE Worlds Collide" Dirt Sheet Fiasco

Graphic for a WrestleVoice exclusive about AEW fans getting worked by the WWE Worlds Collide broadcast pivot.

If you spent any time on social media over the last few days, you witnessed a masterclass in confirmation bias.

AEW fans and the online echo chamber spent the entire week doing victory laps over WWE x AAA: Worlds Collide.

Because early dirt sheet (Fightful Select LMAO people paid for this!) reports claimed the Chicago supercard opposite All Out wasn't going to air live, the web-wrestling faithful treated it like an absolute home run.

They convinced themselves that AEW had forced WWE's hand, relegating a stacked card featuring CM Punk to a glorified, untelevised house show.

They treated unverified speculation like gospel, popped champagne, and gloated.

And then, reality hit them like a brick wall.

The Charlie Brown Football Moment

Hardly 24 hours after the internet declared victory, the narrative completely imploded. Fresh reports dropped confirming that Worlds Collide will actually stream live on YouTube

Just like Charlie Brown lining up to kick the football, AEW fans took a full-speed running start, only for the dirt sheets to yank the ball away at the very last second.

The Setup: The dirt sheets threw out half-baked reporting about the broadcast status.

The Bite: The online bubble ran with it as a tactical victory against WWE.

The Pwnd Reality: Everyone who bragged online now looks completely foolish, exposed for letting their tribalism cloud basic common sense.

Common Sense Wins Again

Did anyone with an actual brain really think WWE was going to book the Allstate Arena, stack a card with CM Punk, go head-to-head with AEW in Chicago, and just let the whole thing evaporate into thin air untelevised? Of course not.

Yet, because it came from the mouths of favored reporters, the fanbase swallowed it whole. They wanted the narrative to be true so badly that they completely checked out of reality.

Moral of the story? Stop treating speculative dirt sheet rumors like religious scripture.

Sometimes you just have to step back, apply a little common sense, and watch the people who live in glass houses throw digital bricks right back into their own faces.
