AEW Title Change Fallout: Why Darby Allin’s Win Felt Like Bad Timing
I’m a pretty big Darby Allin fan, so on paper, seeing him become the new AEW World Champion should feel like a huge, feel-good moment. But the timing and execution just didn’t work for me.
MJF was in the middle of his strongest run in years. He just beat Kenny Omega at Dynasty in a brutal match, looked like an absolute star, and had the company thriving again with real momentum.
Turning him cocky and having him drop the title so quickly (especially in what felt like a short, flat finish) undercut a lot of that hard work.
It made one of AEW’s biggest draws look too vulnerable, too soon. It also didn’t help that tonight’s Dynamite wasn’t one of the better episodes overall.
The main event starting around 10 PM on a show that never really caught fire made the whole thing feel rushed and poorly placed.
A moment this big deserved a hotter crowd and better build.
Will MJF be okay? Of course — he’s MJF. He’s too good on the mic and too valuable to the company to stay down long. He’ll bounce back stronger than ever.
Still, this title change could’ve been handled with more patience.
Darby absolutely deserves his flowers and a run with the belt, but the way it went down tonight left me more disappointed than excited.
What do you think — well-deserved for Darby, or bad booking that hurt the momentum?
