Aubrey Edwards: The Worst Ref in Wrestling – And AEW Fans Created This Monster

Aubrey Edwards: The Worst Ref in Wrestling – And AEW Fans Created This Monster

Look, I’m just going to say what most wrestling fans are thinking after that latest viral clip: AEW’s Aubrey Edwards is one of the absolute worst referees in the entire industry right now.

Don’t believe me? Watch the highlight reel that’s been making the rounds. It’s a masterclass in how NOT to ref a wrestling match:

  1. She’s perpetually out of position for the three-count. Pins happen and she’s somehow two steps behind, scrambling like she just woke up from a nap.

  2. She’s a full-blown ambulance chaser. Every match has to feature Aubrey front and center, stealing camera time from the actual wrestlers who are busting their asses.

  3. Counting to ten outside the ring? Forget it. I’m convinced she genuinely can’t count that high. Or she just doesn’t feel like it.

  4. And those facial expressions… my god. The dramatic hand gestures, the over-the-top reactions like she’s the one taking the suplex. It’s the dumbest, most distracting shit you’ll see in a wrestling ring.

A good referee should be invisible. You forget they’re even there.

Think Charles Robinson in his prime — smooth, professional, part of the background. Aubrey? You remember her for all the wrong reasons. She turns every match into the Aubrey Edwards Show.

Here’s the meanest (and funniest) part: this is mostly your fault. She wasn’t always like this. Go back and watch her in NXT. She was chill. Professional. Barely noticeable — exactly what you want from a ref.

Early AEW? Same deal. She flew under the radar and did her job. Then the AEW fanbase and the company turned the hype machine up to eleven.

“Best ref ever!” memes everywhere. Constant praise.

People treating her like she was a wrestler instead of the person enforcing the rules. The ego got stroked so hard it exploded into full Main Character Syndrome.

Now she’s out here doing cartwheels (metaphorically) during pins, blocking sightlines, and making every big spot about her reactions.

Congrats, Twitter warriors and AEW booking — you created this.

You fed the monster and now it’s ruining matches left and right. And let’s be real: she’s not alone in AEW’s ref problems.

Rick Knox looks perpetually lost in the woods, and Remsburg brings the drama like he’s auditioning for a soap opera.

But Aubrey takes the crown for turning “referee” into performance art. Most fans secretly (or not-so-secretly) agree. A ref you notice is a ref who’s failing at the job.

If she’s the “face” of AEW officiating, that says more about the product than anyone wants to admit. Time to send her back to the quiet NXT life before she starts doing victory laps after every count.

Or better yet — AEW management, stop enabling it. Let the wrestlers be the stars. Until then, we’ll keep laughing at the clips… and quietly wondering how we let it get this bad.

What do you think? Is Aubrey the worst ref you’ve ever seen, or does someone else take the belt?
