Fans Upset at FTR Using “Macho Man” for Cheap Heat

Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat made a special appearance on AEW Dynamite: Blood and Guts, delighting fans with his iconic presence and celebrating his lasting impact on the sport.

I thought it was a cool segment overall, even though it felt a bit drawn out at times. At one point during the exchange, Stokely Hathaway was going back-and-forth with the Dragon, and he brought up the late legendary Randy “Macho Man” Savage’s name for heat.

Stokely said he wanted “his favorite wrestler in attendance at Full Gear, but “hadn’t seen 'Macho Man (Randy Savage) on TikTok, in a minute”.

A lot of fans didn’t like that, and I totally understand why. It wasn’t just that single mention; I felt like they made Ricky look really silly afterward. This was especially odd considering he had just roasted all three of those guys convincingly on the mic.

I wonder if Stokely changed the plan last minute, knowing they were losing badly to Steamboat on the mic. Since Steamboat is seen as one of the best wrestlers ever—but not known for talking skills.

I have to finish with a question because it’s something I always find myself wondering whenever I watch FTR. Why exactly is Stokely there with them? I’m not joking when I say that sometimes I actually laugh a little when I see them coming out together—it just strikes me as unexpected and a bit amusing.

You have two tough, tough white guys known as one of the best tag teams in the world, with Dax being pretty damn good at promos. Then there's Stokley, who is black, not tough, more feminine, making the team feel awkward and mismatched because their styles don't fit well together.

Hopefully, “Big Stoke” was taken out by the Dragon last night. I wanted to say he's an unneeded character, but he's worse—he makes FTR look bad. As in the true FTR, Dax and Cash.
