Congrats to Jody Threat on the Upset Knockouts Battle Royal Win... But Seriously, What?!
Yeah, congrats to Jody Threat on winning the Knockouts #1 Contender Battle Royal at TNA No Surrender tonight—she earned that future shot at Lei Ying Lee's Knockouts World Championship by surviving the chaos.
She literally hung tough on the apron, and capitalized with that last elimination on Tessa Blanchard after Tessa took out Mara Sadé (and Mara had dumped Elayna Black earlier).
Solid underdog moment, and props to her for the push TNA's giving her post-re-signing.
But man... that finish left me shaking my head for minutes straight. The opener felt like a real punch to the gut.
With Tessa Blanchard in the mix—one of the best technical wrestlers alive, period—and Elayna Black bringing that fresh, exciting energy as a rising star, plus Mara Sadé riding hot momentum from her recent wins... it just seemed primed for something bigger.
Jody's reliable (power game, "Wild Child" vibe, good in-ring consistency), but she comes across as pretty mid right now compared to the elite options in that field.
The crowd reaction was dead quiet/flat from what folks are saying—no big pop, more of a confused "huh?" vibe in the arena, which matched exactly how I felt zoned out in disbelief.
You're not alone; a bunch of fans online are echoing the same frustration—surprise upset that didn't land hot, felt like a missed chance to elevate Tessa (for a massive program) or Elayna (breakout potential), or Mara, Myla, Harley…
One recap straight-up called the live response "as flat as a 2x4."
Jody vs. Lee would be a clean face-vs-face matchup, which could build into something respectful and hard-hitting, but right now it feels like a head-scratcher booking choice when the division's stacked with more "it" factor options.
Obviously huge congrats to Jody—work hard, get rewarded—but yeah... I don't know, it just didn't hit for me (or a lot of others watching).
The rest of the card (Lei retaining against Arianna, that stacked main with Santana/Slater vs. Nemeth/Edwards) probably helped recover the energy, but that opener lingered.
What a swerve, though—classic battle royal troll move that caught everyone off guard… and big congratulations to Fightful!
Seriously, how about that pull everyone? She does interviews with them and…well, if you know, you know.
