Mercedes Mone is Bad for AEW Business
Would you believe that Mercedes Mone won yet another title last night at AEW Wrestledream? She’s rapidly becoming reminiscent of legends like Goldberg and Hogan. However, there is a significant difference between her and those two iconic figures. People actually paid money and tuned in to watch Goldberg and Hogan compete!
Nobody really needs 11 Championships; it’s honestly becoming quite ridiculous at this point. Who exactly is benefiting from this situation other than her? Viewership and ratings have hit an all-time low, which clearly shows that fans aren’t responding well to this direction.
I honestly thought she would lose the TBS Championship last night, before former ROH Women’s Champion Mina Shirakawa came out to accept the challenge. We’ve seen that match and outcome, then it happened again, LOLMERCEDESWINSAGAIN, this time for another title!
The artist formerly known as Sasha Banks is really hurting the entire division, a division that supposedly has quite a few top stars. But honestly, I don’t know anymore how many there really are. You have Timeless Toni, Kris Statlander, and then who else truly stands out at this point? The list feels thinner than ever.
They had the opportunity to create a brand new star last night, but instead, Mercedes ended up receiving yet another title. A few weeks ago, I jokingly wondered how many titles she could handle before she might actually fall over—not meant to be cruel, but just because of the sheer weight involved.
