Did Peacemaker S2 Finale Already Ruin Gunn’s DCU?
The first season of James Gunn's Peacemaker, with WWE legend John Cena, was amazing. Season two was fun too, but the finale is being heavily criticized, and I think that’s for good reasons.
I’ll keep this spoiler-free, which is tough, but I’ll try.
It wasn’t a final episode. The story didn’t end but gave a sneak peek of the DC Universe’s future. However, Gunn’s Superman wasn’t very successful, and Peacemaker never gained a big audience.
So, there wasn’t a clear or definitive ending, and it wasn’t witnessed by many people. In fact, most everyone has been criticizing it heavily. Despite all that, THIS sets up the future direction of Gunn’s DCU.
I said no spoilers, but one silly thing stands out. Gunn, usually great with music and media, goes ridiculously over the top here, something almost everyone criticizes in reviews.
That was the worst of James Gunn to me, clearly writing what HE wants to see, rather than what FANS want to see.
I'm not a big Snyder fan; I liked Gunn’s Superman better. But I think Snyder will last longer. Gunn should have avoided the Multiverse—it’s hurting the Marvel movies. People don’t want to do homework while watching films. It’s surprising James didn’t learn this from Marvel’s experience.
