(Spoiler) Gimmick Match Returning to WWE

WWE held a lot of tapings this week, filming multiple episodes of NXT, SmackDown and Monday Night Raw. During the SmackDown taping, it was announced that the classic “Three Stages of Hell” match stipulation is returning to the main roster.

We have spoilers for all of those shows linked.

Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes will battle Drew McIntyre in a “Three Stages of Hell” showdown on the next new SmackDown, a high-stakes encounter set for January 9th that notably coincides with WWE’s tour date in Germany.

This will mark the first “Three Stages of Hell” match on the main roster in 12 years — the last time the stipulation was used was when now-retired John Cena faced Ryback at WWE Payback on June 16, 2013.

A Three Stages of Hell match is a best-of-three falls wrestling bout where each fall uses a tougher rule. It starts as a normal match and can progress to harsher formats like a Steel Cage or Stretcher match, forcing wrestlers to change tactics to win.
