“The Last Time is Now” and Totally Sucks
Last night at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, John Cena lost the Intercontinental Championship to Dominik Mysterio after Liv Morgan returned and helped him. Cena held the title for just 19 days and didn’t win any matches during that time. Many of us are confused and wondering, “What’s happening?”
Cena’s final year in WWE has been remarkably disappointing, almost to the point of being comically bad in how poorly things have unfolded. I actually had to double-check the dates because it’s so mind-boggling — The Unseen 17 turned heel back in March!
It honestly feels like that happened years ago, not just months. So what did this storyline yield? A handful of decent Cena promos, and some lingering questions about The Rock’s involvement, which still seems unclear.
This entire situation might just be WWE’s clearest example yet of failing to plan anything long term. They couldn’t even get it right for John Cena’s swan song year! It’s unquestionably one of the worst stretches of his entire career, and definitely the low point of his later years in the ring.
TKO still has a whole match left to fight through and potentially one last story to tell, so I’m genuinely curious to see just how badly it will go.
It’s such a sad and incredibly surprising way to bring one of the greatest wrestling careers in history to an end. To top it all off, the 2nd and final season of John’s Peacemaker also sucked!
