The Reset Button: Why Trey Miguel is the Smartest Path to Saving Destination X

When we recently talked about how Destination X needs a detour, the biggest red flag was TNA’s current identity crisis.

The lines are blurred. While Mustafa Ali is out here putting on masterclasses to anchor the International Championship, the X-Division has accidentally leaned too hard into pure stunts and comedy gimmicks that hold down guys who can flat-out work, like AJZ.

But looking at the chess board right now, TNA has a massive, built-in escape hatch to fix this before November: Trey Miguel.

The Reality Check

The critique from the Slammiversary fallout stands: when your absolute best hybrid psychology is sitting in the International Title scene, the X-Division gets diluted. It teaches the audience that the X-Division is only about the structural "stunt" of Ultimate X, while the real elite pacing lives elsewhere.

With Mustafa firmly holding down the fort on the International side, Trey Miguel doesn't need to be hovering around that sandbox. He is the ultimate "break glass in case of emergency" option for the division he used to run.

Why Trey is the Smart Play

Trey represents the pure, unfiltered heart of the "no limits" era. He is the exact athlete who can strip away the goofy constraints clogging up the division and force everyone to step up their game.

Dropping Trey right back into the X-Division title picture does three things immediately:

  • Instant Legitimacy: It moves the focus away from lower-card caricatures and shifts it right back to elite workrate.

  • The Perfect Contrast: It sets up an incredible parallel dynamic where Mustafa rules one side of the midcard with prestige, while Trey restores the soul of the other.

  • The November Hook: It gives Destination X a distinct, high-stakes identity in Edmonton rather than just coasting on 2000s nostalgia.

If TNA management wants Destination X to mean something, they need to stop overthinking the booking. The answer is staring them right in the face. Pop Trey back into the X-Division, let him cut loose, and let the workrate do the talking.
