JaySin’s Thoughts
I’ve given TNA a lot of crap recently for lack of creative vision, misusing characters, and all kinds of other issues, and I’m not the only one raising concerns. There’s an entire Asylum of fans who pretty much share the same frustrations, and that collective discontent has been impossible to ignore.
Things felt different last week—in a good way—and even better this week. I’m already loving The Righteous vs. The Hardys. That rivalry can go many ways; none better than it leading back to the Broken Universe and reigniting some of that unpredictable magic.
Dani Luna picking up a big win over Indi Hartwell again was fantastic to see — I loved it. Luna is an excellent heel with real presence and edge, whereas Indi still feels light on character and hasn’t had enough presented to make her truly stand out to the audience.
Rich Swann turning face was another great move; he didn’t work as a heel.
Plus, similar to Tessa tonight, he mentioned being a former World Champion — it’s simple, it’s clean, and it’s effective storytelling that immediately gives his turn weight.
Kazarian’s King’s Speeches are always fun — more of the same here. Santana vs. Kaz was set for TNA Genesis, a bit obvious but not a bad thing; sometimes clarity in booking serves the product well.
I’ve been complaining about the roster being stale, and boom!
Now we have Cedric Alexander, the new X Division #1 contender, BDE, who has a huge social media following and can really wrestle. The Righteous, Mila Moore and Jada Stone debuted recently and I might be missing a name or two.
Harley and Myla didn’t win tonight, but them simply getting time on the show is a promising sign that the company sees potential in their pairing. I’m pretty sure they’ll be pushed harder and more prominently next year.
Plus, TNA actually has a solid Women’s Tag Division at long last, which is encouraging for the roster and storylines. On the other hand, Matt Cardona lost, which always makes me happy — it is what it is; he’s been around forever.
My biggest problem at the moment, like many other fans, are the NXT midcarders.
It just feels so off, considering TNA talent were facing guys like Oba Femi and Trick Williams — who Santana defeated for the Title — before Kaz cashed in.
Now it’s Lexis King, Stacks (who I like more than most), and guys in that tier. Maybe it’s only until the AMC deal? Then the big boys return? That’s what I’m hoping.
For now though, fans need to give credit when it’s due. A lot of the issues we’ve been complaining about are changing quickly. It’s happening right before they head to AMC, with rumors about AJ appearing and other big moves bubbling up, so there’s genuine momentum building.
Finally, this is something my co-host “The Horror King” and I have complained about a lot over the year. What happened to gimmick matches?!
Tonight we finally got a dog collar match, next week a steel cage will return for the first time in ages, and there’s even a Battle Royal on the card!
