The "LOLTNA" Lifecycle: Good Ratings Can't Outrun Bad Habits

The vintage TNA Wrestling booking cycle is a flat circle, and nothing proves that quite like their latest piece of promotional artwork.

When a graphic drops featuring Nic Nemeth and Jeff Hardy facing off, only to pivot hard into "inviting LeBron James" to be an official title holder for a World Championship match at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, the only appropriate reaction is a facepalm.

It is an absolute fever dream of a poster—complete with a custom 76ers-style jersey mockup—that screams desperation for mainstream traction in the most meme-worthy way possible.

For anyone who has followed the promotion for years, it immediately brings back the time-tested "LOLTNA" chants of the internet era. What makes this particular stunt so baffling, though, is the actual timing.

The company has been riding genuine momentum lately, pulling together solid television ratings and building positive creative goodwill with its audience.

They finally seemed to be turning a corner away from the self-inflicted wounds of the past, proving they could sustain a steady, serious wrestling product.

Why TNA's Bizarre LeBron James Graphic Hurts Their Momentum

Yet, true to form, it’s almost like the organization feels naked without a little bit of chaos clinging to them.

Just when the product gets on track, they feel the irresistible urge to pull a stunt that leaves their own fanbase hiding their faces in collective embarrassment—especially when they decide to formally "invite" an NBA superstar a mere twenty-four hours before the show actually takes place.

It goes to show that while you can update the presentation and hit new milestones, you apparently can't completely excise the classic "LOLTNA" energy from the DNA.

Publicity is publicity, sure—but when it's the kind that has your most loyal supporters rolling their eyes, you have to wonder if the joke is worth the punchline.
