WrestleMania 42 Night 2 Recap: Brock’s Tearful Goodbye & A Wild Main Event Save The Night
WWE WrestleMania 42 Night 2 was a mixed bag that started with real emotion and ended with a strong main event stretch, but the lack of any major surprises or returns (unlike Night 1), some pacing issues, and a few underwhelming matches kept it from feeling like an all-time classic.
Coming off Night 1’s 8.2, this one sits a step below.Overall I’d give it a 7.6/10 — the Brock send-off was perfect, the ladder match was very fun chaos, and the main event delivered when it counted in the closing stretch.
Still wanted more “OMFG” moments and at least one shocking return though. Give me a big surprise/return or two, good enough show and I’m usually very happy.
Oba Femi def. Brock Lesnar in 4:42
Hell of an opener. Straight hoss fight — Oba looked like a monster and pinned Brock clean with the Fall From Grace.
Then came the real moment: Brock sat in the ring, took his boots and gloves off, got emotional with tears showing, and the Allegiant crowd hit him with loud “Thank you Brock!” chants.
It felt raw and different — no long retirement tour, just Brock being Brock and bowing out his way. Whether it’s 100% the end or not, it landed perfectly as a send-off
Penta retained the Intercontinental Title in the Six-Man Ladder Match (~15 minutes)
Very fun chaos with ladders everywhere. Rey was moving like he’s still 25, Je’Von hit that cool OG Cutter off the ladder on Rusev while hanging from the title, and Penta pulled out a ladder-assisted Mexican Destroyer late.
The crowd was into the mayhem, but it never quite hit “OMFG” legendary status. We’ve seen Je’Von and others do even wilder stuff on regular shows, so it felt a notch below the all-time ladder classics — solid highlight reel, just not a blast.
Trick Williams def. Sami Zayn for the United States Championship in ~8:50
Trick got his big Mania moment and the place popped when he hit the Trick Shot for the win (Lil’ Yachty at ringside was a fun touch).
Good athletic back-and-forth, but it felt more like a strong TV match than a WrestleMania-level title change.
Finn Balor (as The Demon) def. Dominik Mysterio in the Street Fight (~12-13 minutes)
Some decent violence with chairs and tables for the Judgment Day payback story.
Finn got the win, Dom took the beating, but it didn’t feel next-level intense or epic — just okay mid-card stuff.
Rhea Ripley def. Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship in ~10:10
Rhea winning and getting back on top as Mami is cool for her, but the match itself was weak.
It never clicked like the dream hoss clash it should’ve been — felt rushed and flat, more like a regular TV bout than a spotlight Mania match.
Roman Reigns def. CM Punk (c) – World Heavyweight Championship (main event)
The build felt a bit botched coming in, but once they got in the ring it had that enormous big-fight boxing match atmosphere. Slow and methodical early as they tested each other, massive entrances, split but not fully electric crowd (probably because most fans like both guys).
Then the final stretch went off: Roman looked angry as hell, three nasty Superman Punches while Punk was hung up outside, blood, table spots, Punk barely moving, crazy nearfalls, low blow into GTS (and kickout), Punk mocking with the ula fala, both guys dead throwing everything they had.
The last 1/3 turned it into real Mania shit and got the crowd awake and chanting again. Roman hit the Spear… Spear for the win and the new championship. The layout was off again — two hot things early (Brock’s emotional exit + ladder chaos), then a clear lull with the weaker mid-card matches before the main event brought it home strong.
Crowd was awesome for the Brock moment and the ME finish, but the total lack of any big surprises or returns made the show feel a little predictable after Night 1’s pops.
Night 2 had some memorable parts and real weight (especially that closing war), but it needed a couple more bangers and at least one “don’t suck” surprise return to hit that elite WrestleMania level.
Still a fun watch that finished better than it was for a while.
