WWE’s 9/11 “Never Forget” Only Lasts Until the Saudi Check Clears
I live in New York. On September 11, 2001, I watched the towers burn with my own eyes before they fell.
That memory does not expire.
So when the same people who type “Never Forget” on their phones every year also board the next chartered flight to Riyadh for another WWE show, the distance between those two acts is measured entirely in hypocrisy.
Fifteen of the Nineteen Were Saudi
The same country that produced the majority of the men who murdered nearly three thousand people in a single morning is the one writing the large checks that keep Crown Jewel, Super ShowDown, and the rest of the Saudi schedule running year after year.
This is not complicated. For the entertainment machine, tragedy is just another calendar event. Post the solemn graphic. Collect the engagement.
Then get back to business as usual and cash the next blood-money payment. The performance of remembrance lasts exactly as long as it is useful.
The Transaction Never Stops
Some of us do not get to treat it like content. We were there. We still smell the smoke in our heads.
The rest of the industry is free to prioritize the payday. They are free to call it just business.
I am not obligated to pretend the contradiction is invisible. Never forget, they say. Most of us never will.
Others just never forget when the check clears.
