SPOILER ALERT: Chaos and Alliances Explode at AEW Collision Tapings in San Diego
Fresh off the heels of a massive Forbidden Door weekend and a fiery Dynamite, AEW kept the cameras rolling in San Diego to tape a special 2.5-hour edition of Collision. If the spoilers are any indication, the landscape of the company is shifting rapidly as we head toward Beach Break.
Below are the major takeaways from the tapings.
Reminder this airs tonight, Thursday July 2nd, not the usual Saturday.
The Death Riders and The Dogs Trigger a Main Event War
The massive headline coming out of the night is the complete collapse of the main event scene. In a blockbuster 8-man tag, Adam Copeland teamed up with a returning Jay White and the Bang Bang Gang to defeat Shane Taylor Promotions.
The uneasy alliance didn't even get to celebrate. Immediately after the bell, both The Dogs and the Death Riders swarmed the ring, triggering a massive brawl that left Copeland and the Bang Bang Gang completely laid out. With factions bleeding into each other, the trios and tag divisions are about to become a warzone.
The Don Callis Family is Fracturing
The fallout from Andrade El Idolo walking away from the Don Callis Family boiled over. Andrade picked up a dominant victory over Brian Cage, but the real story happened later in the night.
Don Callis took to the mic for a scathing promo, burying Konosuke Takeshita as a "jealous little bitch" and claiming credit for making him a star. Takeshita clearly isn't playing along—he hit the ring, sending his former manager scurrying and setting up a massive collision course between the two.
Casino Gauntlet Spots Locked In
With the highly anticipated Women's Casino Gauntlet looming at Beach Break to crown a new #1 Contender, two crucial early entry spots were determined in San Diego:
Athena defeated STARDOM’s Rina to lock down the coveted #1 entrant spot.
Maya World defeated Julia Hart to secure the #2 position.
Quick Results & Notes
Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli & Daniel Garcia) def. Shingo Takagi & Drilla Moloney.
