The Hot Commodity: Why TNA’s Ricky Sosa Segment Was Masterclass Storytelling

Fresh off a massive pay-per-view victory over the legendary Eric Young at Slammiversary, the "Young Savage" Ricky Sosa took to the ring on the July 2nd episode of TNA iMPACT! to clear the air. He stood tall, declaring why he belonged in TNA, but before he could even finish savoring his moment, the vultures started circling.

What followed was one of the freshest, most compelling TNA segment angles we've seen in while.

Is Ricky Sosa TNA Wrestling's Next Breakout Star?

Instead of a generic post-match callout, Sosa found himself at the absolute epicenter of a faction tug-of-war. First, Vincent and Uncle Dutch of The Righteous crept out, offering to "reveal his greatness" and bring him into their fold.

But just as they laid out their pitch, The System interrupted. Alisha and Eddie Edwards hit the ring with Cedric Alexander and Bear Bronson, trying to convince Sosa that joining them was his fast track to championship gold—viciously taking shots at The Righteous by calling them a "cult."

The writing here was damn good. Ricky Sosa didn't need to cut a 10-minute promo to look like a star; he just stood there looking like an absolute million bucks while the established groups practically begged for his signature.

It put an incredible amount of stock into a new talent right out of the gate. Ultimately, Sosa showed he isn't anyone's follower.

He handed The Righteous a firm "no" and gave The System a resounding "hell no," declaring his only allegiance is to the fans. Naturally, the rejection sparked a massive, chaotic brawl, drawing out Leon Slater to help even the numbers.

Sosa is a certified hot commodity, and TNA is playing this beautifully.
