Top 5 Matches That NEED to Happen at WWE Backlash 2026

WrestleMania 42 just wrapped up in Vegas, but the road to WWE Backlash is already heating up. Here are my Top 5 matches that absolutely NEED to be booked for the next PPV.

You can find all of my Top 5’s and Top 10’s linked here, along with our most recent podcast episode and a few bonus picks below. #AutismAwareness

Top 5 Hardy Compound Sequences Needed Against The Righteous

  1. Sami Zayn vs. Trick Williams – WWE United States Championship Rematch

Sami Zayn still needs his one-on-one rematch against Trick Williams for the US Title. Trick took the belt from him recently, and Sami deserves one final shot to take it back. This has to happen at Backlash — one last time, winner takes all.

  2. Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Johnny Gargano – Undisputed WWE Championship

Cody Rhodes needs a fresh opponent for the Undisputed WWE Championship after Mania, and Johnny Gargano is the perfect challenger. Whether it’s a banger or not, Cody is retaining the title here — but Gargano bringing that DIY fire would make this an instant classic.

  3. Kevin Owens vs. Randy Orton

Kevin Owens needs to finally get his hands on Randy Orton and settle the score. Owens showing up on SmackDown to start this revenge tour would be massive, and Backlash is the perfect stage for these two veterans to go to war.

  4. Ethan Page vs. Je’Von Evans

It’s time to officially kick off this rivalry on the main roster. Ethan Page vs. Je’Von Evans at Backlash would be the perfect way to introduce that fresh main-roster energy and let these two athletic talents steal the show.

  5. Paige & Brie Bella (c) vs. Natalya & Becky Lynch – WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

Paige and Brie Bella need to defend their newly won tag team titles against a dream team in Natalya & Becky Lynch. This match would be pure nostalgia mixed with star power — two legendary teams colliding at Backlash would be huge for the women’s division.
