AEW Dynamite Preview (July 1): MJF Defends Against Briscoe & The TBS Title "Survival of the Fittest"

Coming off the heels of the Forbidden Door pay-per-view weekend, AEW rolls right into the Viejas Arena in San Diego this Wednesday for the July 1 edition of Dynamite.

As of right now, only two high-stakes matches have been officially announced for the card. However, both bouts are deeply rooted in the structural fallout of Forbidden Door and carry enough narrative weight to anchor the entire broadcast.

Here is the early breakdown of what we are getting this Wednesday night.

  • AEW Championship: MJF (c) vs. Mark Briscoe

I’ve said it before on this site: professional wrestling is at its absolute best when it doesn’t overcomplicate things. Give us good vs. bad. Give us a reason to want to see a guy get his teeth kicked in.

MJF understands that old-school heel psychology better than almost anyone in the modern era. He is the ultimate manipulative villain who dictates the pace and forces you to root against him.

This Wednesday, he’s putting his title on the line against Mark Briscoe, serving as a direct continuation of the bitter Team MJF vs. Team Briscoe war that pushed everyone to their limits over the weekend.

Briscoe is the ultimate fiery, heart-and-soul babyface. This is a classic clash of styles and morals. Expect MJF to use every underhanded trick in the book to neutralize Briscoe's chaotic offense, and expect a masterclass in drawing heat.

Social media has been buzzing since the official announcement dropped. After Willow Nightingale was forced to relinquish the TBS Championship due to a brutal injury sustained over the weekend, a new champion will finally be crowned in a 6-Woman "Survival of the Fittest" Match.

The inclusion of STARDOM’s powerhouse Maika blows this match wide open. If fans thought Forbidden Door concluded on Sunday night, Maika's presence proves the crossover era is far from over.

  • AEW Dynamite is All Elite Wrestling’s flagship weekly show, delivering high-flying action, intense rivalries, and top-tier matches with the AEW roster.
